Position Description
The Department of Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies at Duke University seeks a postdoctoral fellow with an interdisciplinary training in Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies, Black Studies, American Studies, Ethnic Studies, and/or related fields, with expertise in Black feminist studies.
The fellow will have two primary responsibilities:
1. to help conceptualize, plan, and organize the annual Black Feminist Theory Summer Institute (BFTSI) at Duke University, and
2. to build and implement enduring networks and scholarly programming to keep BFTSI cohorts connected (e.g. newsletters, conference roundtables and panels, co-edited publications, etc).
The position requires strong organizational, time management, and communication skills; experience conceptualizing, planning, coordinating, and executing scholarly events; and a deep interest in helping an existing program grow. There is considerable space for a visionary postdoctoral fellow to bring their interests and expertise to bear on shaping a relatively new summer program.
These duties will take roughly half the fellow’s time, with the other half left open for the fellow’s research and writing. The fellow will receive full support for making connections with other scholars and joining campus intellectual life, as well as mentorship from GSF faculty.
Applicants should have PhD in hand by July 1, 2026.
In addition to a cover letter, please include:
• a C.V.
• names and contact information for three references.
Application due date is November 1, 2025.
