Position Description
This advertisement is for a three-year postdoctoral position in theoretical high energy physics (HEP), joint between Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, starting in the Fall of 2026. A new collaboration between Argonne National Laboratory, the University of Notre Dame, and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign supported by Quantum Information Science Enable Discovery 2.0 (QuantISED 2.0) including Clarence Chang, Tim Hobbs, Dafei Jin, Yi Li, Marharyta Lisovenko, Valentine Novosad, Zain Saleem, Tanner Trickle and Gensheng Wang, is seeking a highly qualified candidate to conduct theoretical research on searches for dark matter and physics beyond the Standard Model, particularly those enabled by novel quantum magnonics technology. Candidates should have interest and expertise in the intersections between HEP, dark matter phenomenology, condensed matter physics, and quantum information science. Beyond this work, the ideal candidate will have broader interests across HEP, astrophysics, collider phenomenology, or cosmology, that overlaps with the scientists and faculty in the HEP groups at both Argonne National Laboratory (https://www.anl.gov/hep/theoretical-high-energy-physics) and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (https://physics.illinois.edu/research/groups-and-centers/high-energy-physics). Candidates should have a Ph.D. awarded within the last five years, and must apply via Academic Jobs Online (AJO) by December 5, 2025 to receive full consideration. Candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae including a list of publications, a research statement, and arrange to have at least three reference letters sent through AJO. The hired candidate is expected to spend time at both Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Specific logistics will be agreed upon by the candidate and hiring committee.
