Duke University, Biology

Position Description
The Gibert lab is looking for a postdoc to join our team that studies how rising temperatures influence aquatic microbial food webs by examining how ecological interactions –like predation and competition– mediate these evolutionary responses to temperature rise. The successful candidate will join us to study how predator-prey interactions and their thermal sensitivities influence the temperature response of individual species as well as the collective response of the entire food web. The successful candidate will have experience in the following fields: Ecology, Thermal Ecology, Food Web Ecology, Community Ecology, Trait-based Ecology. Experience in Microbial Ecology alone ––without a deep understanding of Ecology or Evolutionary Biology would in principle not be enough for this position. Fluency in data analysis in R, and strong experimental skills are essential. Experience with field observational studies, handling or large datasets and mathematical modeling are pluses. Other qualifications include a Ph.D. in Biology, Evolution, Ecology or allied fields and evidence of strong research productivity through publications and participation in conferences. The successful candidate will be responsible for: 1) carrying out experimental work, 2) data analysis, 3) manuscript preparation, and 4) submission and resubmission of existing and new manuscripts. Applicants should submit a CV, and contact information for two people who can serve as references. Applications must be submitted through AcademicJobsOnline.com. Late applications will not be considered. The position will begin as soon as the candidate is available, and priority will be given to candidates that can start as soon as possible.Duke is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to providing employment opportunity without regard to an individual's age, color, disability, gender, gender expression, gender identity, genetic information, national origin, race, religion, (including pregnancy and pregnancy related conditions), sexual orientation, or military status.
