Position Description

The Rane laboratory within the Department of Biology at the University of North Dakota is seeking candidates for doctoral positions to engage in computational biology research. Successful candidates will create computational, mathematical, and statistical models to elucidate biological phenomena, in partnership with prominent experimental immunologists and/or clinicians. A specific area of interest is the application of AI-driven models to integrate large and diverse datasets into theoretical frameworks for modeling complex biological systems. We seek candidates with practical expertise in constructing or utilizing informatics and machine learning pipelines, such as language models or vision transformers for modeling sequential, high-dimensional datasets. 

Qualifications:


M.S. in applied mathematics, data science, informatics, statistics, or a related field. Prior experience of applying these skills to biology or allied science would be advantageous but not mandatory.


Proficiency in one or more programming languages, including but not limited to Python, R, and C++.


Excellent written and oral communication skills.


A demonstrated interest in immunology, cancer research, or ecology is preferred but not required.
