Position Description:

Position Description
The theoretical high energy physics group at the University of Toronto aims to fill one or more 3-year postdoctoral research positions starting in the Fall of 2026. Highly qualified candidates with broad interests in the areas of particle physics phenomenology, cosmology and astroparticle physics, and physics of machine learning are invited to apply. Current faculty working in this research area are David Curtin, Yonatan Kahn and Michael Luke. Collaboration with CITA, the local ATLAS or SuperCDMS groups, the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence, the formal theory faculty (A.W. Peet and Erich Poppitz), and neighbouring institutions including York University and Perimeter Institute will be highly encouraged. Applicants with interests in astroparticle physics may be considered for a McDonald Institute Theory Fellowship. Applicants with interests at the intersection of physics and machine learning, who bring innovative approaches that integrate modern statistical sciences with the tools of theoretical physics, may be considered for potential joint positions with the Department of Statistical Sciences at the University of Toronto, or the Perimeter Institute. Applicants should include a cover letter, CV, a statement of research interests (3 pages maximum plus references), and a list of publications. Applicants should arrange for at least three letters of recommendation to be submitted at AcademicJobsOnline. For full consideration, especially for fellowship and joint position opportunities, applicants should submit all materials by the application deadline of Dec. 1, 2025. Consideration of applications will continue until the position(s) are filled. The University of Toronto is strongly committed to diversity within its community and especially welcomes applications from Indigenous Persons, Racialized Persons, Women, Persons with Disabilities invisible or apparent, Members of the 2SLGBTQ+ Community and others who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas. The Department of Physics adopted the following statement on inclusivity, which the high energy theory group strongly supports and strives to implement in its practice: https://www.physics.utoronto.ca/physics-at-uoft/idea/inclusivity-statement/.Application Materials Required:
Submit the following items online at this website to complete your application:
- Cover letters (optional)
- Curriculum Vitae
- Research statement
- Publication list
- Three or more reference letters (to be submitted online by the reference writers on this site
)
And anything else requested in the position description.
