The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Rutgers University-Newark invites applications for tenure-track assistant professors of Computer Science to start September 2026. Applicants from all research fields are welcome. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous externally funded research program, to expand our undergraduate program in Computer Science, and to teach at both graduate and undergraduate levels. The successful candidate will have a robust program of research in any of a range of areas including but not limited to Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, Security and Privacy, Parallel and Distributed Computing, Deep Learning, Internet of Things (IoT), and Algorithms. Successful candidates will hold a joint appointment with IDRIS (The Institute for Data, Research, and Innovation Science). We especially welcome applicants from underrepresented minority groups. Positions are also open for candidates to be considered for Associate Professor and Professor level. Requirements: A Ph.D. in Computer Science or a related field, outstanding record of research accomplishments as well as of effective teaching are required. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science is in the exciting phase of building up a vibrant research faculty in Computer Science. The department has PhD students in mathematics and data science and now intends to grow in the direction of computing in a broad sense. The successful candidate will play a vital role in the future development of the department’s teaching and research programs in Computer Science. The Institute for Data, Research and Innovation Science (IDRIS) is a Chancellor-level entity that will serve as an organizing hub for ethical and responsible scholarship and practice in data science, AI and technology at Rutgers University-Newark across the various schools on campus. IDRIS serves as a complement to the academic excellences being developed within the enterprise university.
