Position Description
The Winnipeg Particle Theory Group is inviting applications for a three-year MI-CITA Theory Postdoctoral Fellowship in the field of particle cosmology, to work with Evan McDonough. Top-ranked applications will be sent to the MI-CITA Theory Evaluation committee, who will allocate fellowships. First round offers will be made in December. The Winnipeg Particle Theory Group is committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and especially welcomes applications from racialized persons/persons of colour, women, Indigenous/Aboriginal People of North America, persons with disabilities, LGBTQ2S+ persons, and others who may contribute to the further diversification of ideas. Prof. McDonough is an Associate Professor at the University of Winnipeg. McDonough is an active researcher and an active member of the research community: he is currently serving a 4-year term on the Council of the Canadian Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics (CITA), recently completed a two-year term as the Director of the Winnipeg Institute for Theoretical Physics, and recently completed a 3-year term on the Scientific Council of the Canadian national Institute for Particle Physics. McDonough is very invested in the success of students and postdocs, and works actively and deliberately to support both their professional success and personal happiness. You can find more about Evan, including recordings of research presentations, here: https://www.evanmcdonoughphysics.com/. An up-to-date list of papers by Evan can be found here: https://inspirehep.net/authors/1272159 . The MI-CITA Postdoc will play an integral role in all activities of the group, including leading high-profile projects, mentorship and research supervision of students across all levels (undergraduate, MSc, PhD), and will have many opportunities for professional development. Applicants are requested to identify their expertise in at least two of the following areas: -- Data analysis, in particular MCMC analyses of cosmological models (dark matter, dark energy) and data sets (CMB, LSS, etc). -- Cosmic Inflation model building and phenomenology, in particular inflation with connections to dark matter production mechanisms, such as gravitational particle production and primordial black hole dark matter production. -- Dark Matter model building, particularly novel dark matter production mechanisms -- Ultralight dark matter model building and phenomenology, including axions and fuzzy dark matter -- String theory and supergravity cosmological model building Interested candidates should submit their application via academic jobs online. A complete application will consist of: -- a brief cover letter which identifies two or more of the above mentioned topics as areas of expertise. -- research statement. -- CV -- three letters of recommendation to be submitted on Academic Jobs Online. The deadline for applications is November 21, 2025. The McDonald Institute expects applicants to complete a short, voluntary demographic survey to support the McDonald Institute's Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Indigenization (EDII) efforts. Information collected will support future efforts to promote MI opportunities to diverse communities.
