POSITION OVERVIEW Position title: Postdoctoral Scholar in High-Energy Theoretical Physics Salary range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. The posted UCSC salary scales set the minimum pay based on the individual’s Experience Level, which is determined by the number of months of postdoctoral service at any institution. See the salary scale titled, Postdoctoral Scholar-Employee / Postdoctoral Scholar-Fellow / Postdoctoral Scholar-Paid Direct - Fiscal Year. A reasonable estimate for this position is $69,073-$77,030. Percent time: Full-time (100%) Anticipated start: Start date is negotiable, but is preferred to be September 1, 2026. Position duration (maximum duration of service in a Postdoctoral title): Postdoctoral Scholar appointments are full-time and the initial appointment is for a minimum of two years. Reappointment is anticipated following a satisfactory performance review and contingent upon the availability of funding. The total duration of an individual’s postdoctoral service may not exceed five years, including postdoctoral service at any institution. Job Location: Santa Cruz, California The Santa Cruz Institute for Particle Physics (SCIPP) at the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in High-Energy Theoretical Physics. SCIPP is an organized research unit within the University of California system. SCIPP's scientific and technical staff are and have been involved in several cutting-edge research projects for more than 25 years. The primary focus is experimental and theoretical particle physics and particle astrophysics, including the development of technologies needed to advance that research. Under the direction of Professor Edgar Shaghoulian, the postdoctoral scholar will conduct research on topics in high-energy theoretical physics. These include quantum aspects of black holes, AdS/CFT, quantum cosmology, and formal aspects of quantum field theory. Additionally, the scholar will be expected to publish in scientific journals, interact with and assist Ph.D. students, and conduct independent research. The theoretical high-energy physics group also includes faculty members Wolfgang Altmannshofer, Stefania Gori, Howie Haber, and Stefano Profumo, in addition to several postdocs and graduate students. Ph.D. must be in hand at the time of initial appointment. ● Research experience in quantum gravity and quantum field theory.
