Position Description

The string theory group at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev (BGU) invites applications for postdoctoral positions in theoretical high-energy physics, hosted by Prof. Shira Chapman as part of the ERC Starting Grant (dSHologQI). Successful candidates will conduct research within Prof. Chapman’s group and are encouraged to pursue independent projects as well as collaborations with other members of the string theory group, including Eran Palti, Michael Lublinsky, and Ram Brustein. Research interests relevant to the position include quantum field theory, gravity, holography, and string theory, broadly defined. Current projects focus on quantum information and quantum gravity, holography and de Sitter space, SYK models, and defects and interfaces in conformal field theories.

BGU’s string theory group maintains close ties with other HEP-TH groups in Israel and participates in the DIP Israeli–German collaboration “Holography and the Swampland,” involving partner groups in Germany.

Appointments are for two years, with the possibility of renewal for a third year. The positions offer a competitive salary, generous travel support, and access to affordable housing near campus in residences intended for research students (available upon early application). Ben-Gurion University is located in Beer-Sheva, in Israel’s southern district, about one hour by train from Tel Aviv.

As part of the postdoctoral deadline agreement, no offers with acceptance deadlines earlier than January 30, 2026, will be made.
