Position Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in the astrophysics of dark matter at Queen's University in Canada, starting no later than September 2026. The successful candidate will carry out research independently and in collaboration with members of the Queen's Astrophysics Research Group and the McDonald Institute for Astroparticle Physics. The research program should focus broadly on astrophysical probes of dark matter in synergy with the research programs of Dr. Kristine Spekkens and/or Dr. Larry Widrow, including structural and/or dynamical models of galaxies including the Milky Way, indirect constraints on the nature of dark matter, cosmological galaxy formation and evolution, and the galaxy-halo connection. Candidates pursuing either theoretical or observational lines of inquiry are welcome to apply. The Queen's Astrophysics Research Group also includes Dr. Joe Bramante, Dr. Nahee Park, Dr. Aaron Vincent (theoretical particle astrophysics and multimessenger astronomy) as well as researchers in star formation, the ISM, and stellar atmospheres.

The initial appointment is for two years, with a possibility to extend the position to a third year.

The Queen's University Department of Physics, Engineering Physics, and Astronomy is a vibrant department of about 30 research faculty and 100 graduate students in Astrophysics, Particle Astrophysics, Condensed Matter Physics and Optics, and Applied Physics.

Queen's University invites applications from all qualified individuals. Queen's is strongly committed to employment equity, diversity, and inclusion in the workplace and encourages applications from Black, racialized persons, Indigenous people, women, persons with disabilities, and 2SLGBTQI+ persons. The University provides support in its recruitment processes to all applicants who require accommodation due to a protected ground under the Ontario Human Rights Code, including those with disabilities.

The salary range is $60,000 - $70,000 CAD/year, commensurate with the successful candidate's experience. Research funds are available for travel, computing and publication charges. Benefits are provided, and are governed by University policy and the collective agreement between postdoctoral fellows and the University.

Applicants should submit a cover letter (about one page), a CV (no strict page limit), and a research statement (no more than four pages), and arrange for two reference letters to be provided through the Academic Jobs Online interface.
