Position Description

Postdoctoral Scholar in Theoretical Particle Physics

The Institute for Fundamental Science (IFS) at the University of Oregon is the home for research whose primary aim is to understand, explore, and extend the fundamental laws of nature, with an emphasis on the consequences for observable phenomena. The IFS brings together the UO’s investigations in experimental and theoretical high energy particle physics, astrophysics and astronomy, and is complemented by a variety of inquiries into other foundational topics.

The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will conduct research as part of the Theoretical Particle Physics group (Spencer Chang, Tim Cohen, Graham Kribs, Dave Soper and Tien-Tien Yu). Our interests are broad, including the Standard Model (quantum chromodynamics, jet substructure), physics beyond the Standard Model (Higgs physics, electroweak symmetry breaking, supersymmetry), and astrophysics/cosmology (dark matter, baryogenesis) and machine learning applications in these topics. The University of Oregon also has an experimental high energy physics group involved in the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, an observational astrophysics group involved in the LIGO experiment and radio astronomy.

Interested candidates should submit cover letter, curriculum vitae with publication list and a research statement through academicjobsonline.org. Applicants should also arrange to have at least three letters of recommendation sent directly to the AJO website on their behalf. To ensure full consideration, please submit application materials by January 12, 2026. The position will remain open until filled. Inquiries may be addressed to Graham Kribs (kribs@uoregon.edu).
