Position Description

Applications are invited for up to two Postdoctoral Researcher positions in Theoretical High Energy Physics, structured as a 4-year joint position (2+2 years) between the University of Porto (Portugal) and the ICTP South American Institute for Fundamental Research (ICTP-SAIFR) (São Paulo, Brazil). 

Position Details Duration:

  • 4 years (2+2 structure). 
  • Start Date: Expected to be in the Fall of 2026.
  • Roles: The two positions will be offered as one Postdoctoral Fellowship and one Postdoctoral Research Contract, both carrying the similar competitive salary/stipend. 
Years 1 & 2: University of Porto (Portugal) Successful candidates will be based at the University of Porto's Faculty of Sciences (FCUP) and will work with Professor. Miguel Sousa Costa and Dr. Vasco Gonçalves. 

International Mobility: The researcher will be integrated into a prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Staff Exchange Project, providing opportunities for extended research stays at associated nodes, including: Perimeter Institute (Canada), Università di Torino (Italy), École Normale Supérieure (ENS, France), ICTP-SAIFR (Brazil), EPFL (Switzerland), JLabs (USA), and others. 

Years 3 & 4: ICTP-SAIFR (Brazil) The remaining two years will be spent at the ICTP-SAIFR in São Paulo. Potential collaborators include: Nathan Berkovits (ICTP-SAIFR/IFT-UNESP) Eduardo Casali (USP) Andrei Mikhailov (IFT-UNESP) Horatiu Nastase (IFT-UNESP) Pedro Vieira (ICTP-SAIFR/IFT-UNESP/Perimeter) 

Note: This continuation at ICTP-SAIFR is contingent on renewal of the ICTP-SAIFR grant with Brazilian funding agencies.

Candidates must hold a PhD in Physics(less than five years)  by the position's start date. A strong research track record in theoretical high energy physics is expected. Please ensure you include the following materials in your application:
