Academia Sinica, Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics
Position Description
The
Academia Sinica Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics (ASIAA) invites
applications to two postdoctoral research positions in cosmology and exoplanet
science, working with Dr. Tomomi Sunayama and Dr. Shang-Min Tsai, respectively.
The initial appointment for both positions is for two years, with flexible
start date in 2026 and possible extension for two more years depending on
performance. Candidates are expected to have completed their PhD by the start
of the appointment. The primary responsibilities for each position are listed
below:
Postdoctoral
associate in cosmology:
We invite applications for a Postdoctoral
Researcher to work with Dr. Tomomi Sunayama in observational cosmology. The
position will focus on exploiting data from the Subaru Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC)
survey, the Subaru Prime Focus Spectrograph (PFS), the Rubin Observatory LSST,
and the Roman Space Telescope High Latitude Survey, all of which ASIAA is
deeply involved in.
The
successful applicant will work on developing and applying advanced analysis
methods for these datasets across multiple surveys. Possible research
directions include (but are not limited to):
•
Joint
analysis of cluster abundance, weak gravitational lensing and clustering from
HSC, LSST, and Roman
•
Development
of cosmological simulations incorporating primordial non-Gaussianity (PNG)
•
Construction
of cosmological emulators for cluster observables, including systematics
•
Synergies
between cluster cosmology, galaxy clustering, and lensing signals across
multiple surveys, including HSC, LSST, Roman, and PFS
The
postdoc will work in close collaboration with the broader cosmology community
at partner institutions, including teams engaged in HSC Weak Lensing, PFS
Cosmology, LSST DESC, and the Roman High Latitude Survey.
The
ideal candidate will have experience in weak gravitational lensing, galaxy
clusters, or large-scale structure. Experience with cosmological simulations
and machine learning is highly desirable.
Postdoctoral
associate in exoplanet atmospheres:
We
invite applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position to work with Dr.
Shang-Min Tsai on exoplanet atmospheres.
We
are seeking a highly motivated researcher conducting both collaborative and
independent research. The research projects will focus on, but are not limited
to
i)
identifying diagnostic signatures of sub-Neptunes and rocky planets
ii)
improving current atmospheric retrieval framework, and
iii)
exploring observable features and asymmetries induced by global circulation and
orbital dynamics
We
are particularly interested in candidates with experience in the following
areas:
•
High-resolution spectroscopic analysis
•
Atmospheric retrieval techniques
•
3D general circulation models (GCMs) and sub-grid model development
•
Planetary interiors and evolution related to volatiles cycling
The
postdoctoral associate will also have opportunities to participate in
preparatory programs for ELT/METIS, ARIEL, and several JWST collaborations. The
annually funded summer program at ASIAA
additionally offers opportunities for joint student projects and supervision
experience.
ASIAA
is an institute of Academia Sinica, the leading national research organization
of Taiwan. ASIAA has access to the Twin Magellan Telescopes and the Subaru
Telescope, and participates in the construction of METIS -- the first-light
instrument of the ELT -- and is a partner of the Giant Magellan Telescope. More
information on these programs and facilities is available on our homepage.
