The Steven and Evelyn Milman Postdoctoral Fellowship
American Studies Program
Cornell University


The Cornell American Studies Program invites applicants for the Steven and Evelyn Milman Postdoctoral Fellowship. The focus of this postdoctoral fellowship will be the study of sports and U.S. cultures. The position starts August 16, 2026 and concludes August 15, 2027. Postdoctoral responsibilities will include the teaching of two undergraduate seminars as well as a public presentation on research conducted during the fellowship year. The successful fellow is expected to be in residence for the full academic year and to participate in American Studies events. Applicants must have completed a Ph.D. in Sociology, History, Media Studies, American Studies, Cultural Studies, Science and Technology Studies, Sports Studies and/or related fields. by August 1, 2026. Salary will be $62,232. This is a benefits-eligible, non-renewable position. Interested applicants should submit the following through AJO:

2) curriculum vita
3) statement proposing an individual research project (2 pp) 
4) brief descriptions of two undergraduate seminars in U.S. sports studies 
5) example of written work (~30 pages)
6) the names of three references.

Pay Ranges:

The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:

  • Prior relevant work or industry experience.
  • Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
  • Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
  • Unique applicable skills.
