Position Description

The University of Melbourne invites applications for a postdoctoral position in beyond the Standard Model phenomenology and astroparticle physics.

Job description:

The position will be based within the School of Physics at the University of Melbourne’s Parkville campus, working primarily with Prof Matthew Dolan on theoretical particle and astroparticle physics.

The senior academics in the Theoretical Particle Physics group are Prof. Nicole Bell, Dr Peter Cox, Prof. Matthew Dolan, and Prof. Raymond Volkas. The group includes other postdoctoral fellows working on beyond-Standard-Model projects in dark matter, neutrino physics, flavour physics, particle phenomenology, early-universe cosmology, and other related areas. The group also contains a significant number of PhD and Masters students working on these topics.

The position is offered for three years.

The anticipated starting date is September 2026, or another date by negotiation. The salary will be at University of Melbourne salary level A6 (which is currently $110,319 Australian dollars). A PhD by the time the position starts is required.

About you:
  • A PhD or equivalent in theoretical particle physics or a related area
  • Expertise in Beyond the Standard Model phenomenology and/or astroparticle physics
  • Demonstrated aptitude for research with a sound record of peer-reviewed publications, commensurate with experience and opportunities.
