Position Description

Prof. Albion Lawrence is hiring a postdoc in physical oceanography, funded by a grant from the Simons Foundation. Our current focus is on the study of mesoscale and submesoscale dynamics via theory, numerical models, and observations (particularly satellite altimetry). This includes analytic and numerical investigations of submesoscale turbulence and wave-turbulence interactions, and novel techniques for the analysis of models and observations at these scales.

While we are particularly interested in candidates with a PhD in physical oceanography, we also encourage candidates coming from theoretical physics or astrophysics to apply. Experience with numerical modeling is important, as is a solid background in fluid dynamics.

The position is for three years, contingent on performance. We are aiming for a Fall 2026 start date, but are open to an earlier start. The pay range is $65K-75K. Applicants should send a cover letter, research statement, and list of publications, and arrange for at least three letters of reference to be sent as well. We will accept applications until the position is filled, but for full consideration, please submit by Jan. 15, 2026.

The university’s pay ranges represent a good faith estimate of what Brandeis reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of posting. The pay offered to a selected candidate during hiring will be based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience and education/training, internal peer equity, and applicable legal requirements.
