Position Description
Innosuisse funded project – University of GenevaWe are a small, highly focused team of researchers working at the intersection of quantum physics, applied mathematics, and modern computation, with the ambition to establish modern tensor-network methods as practical tools for real industrial problems.
The project is centered on delivering rigorous, high-impact proof-of-concepts and using these results to form the technical foundation of a future deep-tech spin-out.
The role focuses on the development of state-of-the-art tensor-network algorithms within an industry-driven R&D effort. As part of a tight core team, the successful candidate will assume substantial technical responsibility, help shape the project’s scientific and technological direction, and work with a high degree of autonomy and rigor, reporting directly to the Principal Investigator (PI).
The Role:
- Design, develop, and optimize state-of-the-art tensor-network algorithms for industrial use cases
- Translate concepts from quantum physics, machine learning, and applied mathematics into robust and efficient software solutions
- Develop and maintain high-quality R&D code, with a focus on performance, scalability, and reliability
- Collaborate closely with academic research partners and industry-oriented stakeholders
- Analyze, benchmark, and validate algorithms on realistic datasets and applications
- Document methods and results, and present findings to internal and external audiences
- Contribute actively to the technical roadmap and the preparation of a startup spin-out
- PhD in quantum physics, computer science / machine learning, applied mathematics, or a closely related field
- Demonstrated ability to carry out independent research and development at a high technical level
- Strong programming skills in Python and C++ and/or Rust
- Experience with numerical methods, algorithm development, or complex software systems
- Industry experience is an asset, but not required
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High level of autonomy, motivation, and collaborative mindset
- Existing work authorization for Switzerland is an advantage
- A hands-on role at the core of an industry-driven R&D effort, embedded in a university environment with direct access to world-leading research groups
- The opportunity to turn cutting-edge methods into real industrial solutions, with a clear path from algorithm development to deployment
- A broad, high-impact scope of responsibility, spanning advanced research, software development, and early-stage venture preparation
- A small, highly motivated team where your contributions directly shape the technical direction, culture, and future growth of the project
- Starting date: As soon as possible
- Duration: 18 months, renewable upon mutual agreement
Deadline: 30th January 2026.
