Position Description

Boston University invites applications for two Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Business faculty positions at the rank of non-tenure track Clinical Associate Professor in the Information Systems Department in the Questrom School of Business. The anticipated start date for these positions is July 1, 2026.

We seek outstanding candidates who are passionate about teaching and engaging with graduate and undergraduate students, as well as collaborating with corporate partners. Candidates should have applied expertise in AI and technology companies or corporate environments developing and implementing AI solutions. Specifically:

Strong candidates will have hands-on experience applying AI to business problems end-to-end, including one or more of the following:

• Business use cases (traditional ML + GenAI): delivering measurable outcomes in industries such as healthcare, financial services, insurance, retail/e-commerce, supply chain/logistics, manufacturing, and the public sector, across use cases including forecasting, classification, personalization, pricing, risk scoring, anomaly/fraud detection, optimization, and decision support.

• Enterprise GenAI for knowledge work: implementing retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and knowledge-base integration to improve productivity and decision quality in functions such as customer support, sales, marketing, finance operations, HR, and procurement.

• Workflow automation with AI agents: designing multi-step, tool-using systems for real business processes (e.g., triage, summarization, drafting, routing, compliance checks) with human-in-the-loop approvals and safe execution.

• Responsible AI in business settings: building governance processes (model risk management, documentation, monitoring, compliance) appropriate for regulated and high-stakes environments.

• Data privacy and security in deployment: enabling AI adoption while protecting sensitive data (personally identifiable information, confidential corporate information) and managing third-party/vendor risk.

• Business measurement and adoption: running AI experiments, defining key performance indicators (KPIs) and return on investment (ROI), and driving implementation through prototyping, stakeholder alignment, change management, and organizational adoption.

• Executive education / business school teaching: experience teaching applied AI and analytics to business audiences, including MBA students and mid-level to senior executives, with an emphasis on practical decision-making, real-world case discussions, and translating technical concepts into business strategy and implementation.

Faculty will play a leadership role in curriculum development and delivery for a new online MS in AI in Business and the potential extend AI-in-Business content into Questrom’s MBA and undergraduate programs. There is also the possibility of including a B2B-focused track in the MS in AI in Business. Faculty will also contribute to Questrom’s Digital Business Institute and build interdisciplinary connections with the University’s Faculty of Computing and Data Science.

Applicants must possess, or be near completion of, a PhD in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field by the start of employment. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

The Questrom School of Business offers generous research and teaching support. The salary range for Clinical Associate Professors at the Questrom School of Business is $174,100 - $215,000.
