The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business invites applicants for a Postdoctoral Associate position for a 1-year term (with the possibility of renewal for an
additional year) in our Applied Economics and
Policy (AEP) area, with a school affiliation in the Dyson School of
Applied Economics and Management. The
Postdoctoral Associate will contribute to quantifying the private value of
improved soil health across the U.S. using econometric techniques and
combination of large-scale datasets. The start date of this position could
be as early as March 1, 2026, but a latter start date is possible. The position will be based in Ithaca, NY under
the supervision of Prof. Ariel Ortiz-Bobea (Dyson) and in coordination with Dr.
Joseph Amsili, Director of Cornell’s Soil Health Program.
The ideal candidate will possess a PhD in economics, agricultural and resource
economics, data science or closely related field, with strong quantitative skills and demonstrated experience in
applied econometric analysis, large-scale data integration, and global or
regional economic modeling, as well as an interest in climate risk, soil
health, agricultural productivity, and policy-relevant research. Demonstrated
ability and interest to engage across academic disciplines is essential.
The Postdoctoral Associate will manage and execute
the core research activities of the project. Responsibilities include
assembling and harmonizing large datasets from experimental trials, remote
sensing, soil health databases, and farmland markets; developing and
implementing quantitative models to estimate the impacts of soil health
practices on soil health outcomes, productivity, risk and farmland values. The Postdoctoral
Associate will lead the preparation of research manuscripts for submission to
peer-reviewed journals and present findings at academic and professional
conferences. Additional responsibilities include collaborating with faculty
mentors and external partners, engaging with agricultural finance stakeholders
to translate research into policy-relevant insights, and contributing to the
development of practical frameworks and tools for integrating soil health into
agricultural lending and risk models.
The Cornell
SC Johnson College
of Business (established on July 1, 2016) combines
three Schools: the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of
Management (Johnson), the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and
Management (Dyson), and the Nolan School of Hotel Administration (Nolan).
Dyson houses a top-ranked
undergraduate business program as well as graduate programs that award Ph.D.,
M.S. and M.P.S. degrees. Areas of faculty research include management;
environmental, energy and resource economics; food and agricultural economics; and
international and development economics. Faculty members in the Dyson School
frequently collaborate with colleagues in Computer and Information Sciences,
Economics, Engineering, Natural
Resources, and other units on campus.

In compliance with New York's Pay Transparency Act, the annual
base salary range for this position is $62,232 - $67,824 for a 12-month appointment. Cornell

Pay Ranges:
The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:
- Prior relevant work or industry experience.
- Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
- Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
