About the Role
The Duke Initiative for Science & Society is recruiting for a Senior Lecturing Fellow and Co-Director of Graduate Studies to provide academic leadership of the MA in Applied Ethics & Policy Technology Concentration. This is a non-regular rank, full time faculty position.
This position reports directly to the Interim Director of Science & Society, David Hoffman. This position works alongside the Associate Director of Initiative Operations and the Program Management team who are responsible for all program marketing and operations.
Science & Society is the primary appointment and funder for this position. This position may also secure an appointment from Duke Law for teaching a course at the Law School.
Responsibilities
This position will act as co-Director of Graduate Studies for the MA in Applied Ethics & Policy, assuming academic leadership of the Tech Policy Concentration. Your goal will be to make Duke’s program the pre-eminent Master’s program in its field.
You will provide strategic leadership for the MA program’s technology track. You will help build innovative and cutting-edge curriculum, attract leading faculty, identify meaningful research projects, cultivate valuable experiential learning opportunities, and form connections with industry/government/non-profit stakeholders.
This position will be responsible for overseeing the JD/MA in Applied Ethics & Policy program. Specifically, you will ensure that the program meets the requirements and standards of S&S, the Grad School, and the Duke Law School with support of the S&S Sr. Program Coordinator/Academic Advisor. You will build community among the 10-15 students in the program.
This position will broaden the impact of Duke’s tech ethics and policy curriculum through initiatives, such as new curriculum, co-curricular projects, exec education, and online education opportunities.
You will provide mentorship to the students in the technology concentration of the MA program. You will help new students chart a customized academic path here at Duke, introduce students to technology policy co-curricular opportunities, help them identify research projects, and offer career development assistance.
This position will respond to students in need of special support (leave of absence, etc.)
You will help recruit new talented students to the MA program through on-line and in-person promotional programming, alongside the Associate Director.
This position will teach 3 courses for our current students, under the agreement and direction of the Director of Science & Society.
This position will contribute to the vision, values, and oversight of Science & Society overall by participating in the S&S Faculty Governance Committee and the S&S Operations Team.
