The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business invites applicants for a full-time, nine-month, non-tenure-track Professor of Practice position in our Services Management area, with a school affiliation in the Cornell Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration. This is a 5-year renewable term position with an intended start date is July 1, 2026. The position will be based in Ithaca.
Professor of Practice appointments are intended for distinguished, highly experienced industry professionals who can provide effective, practice-oriented instruction and translate current industry practice into the classroom in ways that complement instruction provided by tenure-track faculty.
Responsibilities of the nine-month position include teaching core and elective courses across the undergraduate and graduate curricula in hospitality and services more broadly, with an emphasis on how customer demand and experience, and supporting operations, are being reshaped by technology, AI, and analytics. The successful candidate will be expected to translate substantial professional practice into the classroom through applied frameworks, contemporary cases, simulations, and project-based learning that reflect current industry tools and decision processes. The candidate will also contribute to curriculum development by offering sections of existing electives and/or developing new elective offerings aligned with emerging operational and demand-side challenges in hospitality and service businesses. While this position is primarily based in the Nolan School, the candidate may be asked to teach across the College (including the Dyson and Johnson Schools) based on program needs.
In addition to teaching classes and holding office hours, faculty also recruit, manage and develop undergraduate teaching assistants as needed. Being accessible to students is critical. Our teaching faculty in the Services Management Area teach multi-section courses ranging in size from 20 to 150 students and they collaborate extensively with faculty colleagues on curriculum development and academic area planning. In addition to teaching responsibilities, appointments are expected to pursue professional development activities, such as presenting at relevant industry-related conferences and interacting with hospitality industry professionals to expand classroom expertise and develop highly relevant teaching materials for our students. The College supports such activities with professional development funds. Research is not a formal component of this role but is encouraged insofar as it complements this position’s teaching role. Faculty have the opportunity to teach across multiple schools within the College of Business.
The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business (established on July 1, 2016) combines three Schools: the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management (Johnson), the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management (Dyson), and the Cornell Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration (Nolan).
The Cornell Peter and Stephanie Nolan School of Hotel Administration is the top-ranked management program worldwide, with undergraduate, masters, and Ph.D. programs. The Nolan School of Hotel Administration (Nolan) has approximately 800 undergraduates and 60 graduate students. Founded in 1922, Nolan is an AACSB accredited business school, with a resident faculty of 65 and over 10,000 alumni worldwide. Important resources available to faculty include extraordinary access to industry leaders, excellent research funding, the Center for Hospitality Research (CHR), and the cultural and intellectual resources of the Cornell University community.

In compliance with New York's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $120,000 - $230,000. This pay range represents base pay only (for 9 months) and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, or other items. Pay Ranges:
The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined considering the following criteria:
- Prior relevant work or industry experience.
- Education level to the extent education is relevant to the position.
- Academic Discipline (faculty pay ranges reflects 9-month annual salary)
