Position Description

This professorship is intended to strengthen research at the transregional Cluster of Excellence 3112 “Center for Chiral Electronics” (CCE). The CCE researches the concept of chirality as a key resource for next-generation electronic technologies. The focus is on fundamental research into understanding and controlling chiral electronic phenomena at atomic and mesoscopic length scales and ultrafast time scales, which opens new perspectives for electronics and quantum technologies. The position is open to candidates whose research topics lie in the field of experimental solid-state physics, who can meaningfully complement existing activities at the Faculty of Physics and in the third-party funded networks established there, and who can be expected to have close links to the Cluster of Excellence, such as research focuses in the areas of design, synthesis and characterization of chiral materials and interfaces, control of spin-orbit interactions, chiral electronic and magnetic phases and superconducting states, spintronic devices, coherent control of electronic processes, quantum transport, quantum circuits, or quantum-coherent solid-state systems.

The candidate is expected to be able to cover the entire breadth of the field “experimental physics” in teaching. The candidate is also expected to take on administrative duties on the departmental and university level.

The University of Regensburg aims to raise the number of female professors and expressly encourages applications from qualified female scientists. The University of Regensburg offers support to families to meet the demands of the workplace (see https://www.uni-regensburg.de/universitaet/jobs-und-karriere/familien-service for more information). Candidates with disabilities and essentially equivalent qualifications will be given preferential consideration. The legal requirements for appointment into the civil service are set out in the “Bayerisches Beamtengesetz” (BayBG) and the BayHIG. Stipulations regarding the age of the candidate exist according to BayHIG Section 60(3).

Applications accompanied by supporting documentation (CV preferably without photo) with copies of certificates; list of publications; description of research experience and research interests; statement of research; list of third-party funding; description of teaching experience and statement of teaching philosophy) should be submitted, preferably in electronic form in a single file, by February 28, 2026 to The Dean, Department of Physics, University of Regensburg, 93040 Regensburg, Germany (fakultaet.physik@ur.de).
