Position Description

Applications are invited for a temporary post of a UCD Post-doctoral Research Fellow Level 1 or 2 within UCD School of Physics.

The position is a 3-year postdoctoral research position in the School of Physics at University College Dublin in the group of Asst. Prof. Ciarán Hickey.

The group focuses on exploring the interplay between topology, entanglement and dynamics in correlated quantum many-body systems. Primarily leveraging computational techniques, alongside analytical tools, we are interested in developing a multi-faceted perspective on questions involving frustrated magnetism and quantum spin liquids, non-linear response, and correlated multi-orbital systems.

The position is funded by the Research Ireland Frontiers for the Future Project grant "Non-Linear Dynamics of Quantum Magnets". It will involve exploring non-linear response in quantum magnets, with flexibility to also pursue other research directions aligned with your interests. There is funding for equipment and travel available.

For more details on the group, and a full list of publications, see https://ciaranhickey.weebly.com

Important note for Applicants: When preparing an application for the above position, applicants are also asked to provide the following details in addition to a Covering Letter, and an (up to date) Curriculum Vitae (CV):
- Names and contact details of TWO referees. (NB: Referees will not be contacted prior to Interviews, or permission to do so being confirmed in writing.)
- Statement of research interests (maximum one page).

Salary Range: €46,305 - €50,168 Per Annum
Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Closing date: 12:00 noon (local Irish time) on 09 March 2026. Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified. Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time of 12:00 noon (Local Irish Time) on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system. UCD are unable to accept late applications.

UCD do not require assistance from Recruitment Agencies. Any CVs submitted by Recruitment Agencies will be returned.

The PD1 position is intended for early-stage researchers, either just after completion of a PhD or for someone entering a new area for the first time. If you have already completed your PD1 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD1, or you are an external applicant whose total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 4 years, you should not apply and should refer to PD2 posts instead.

The PD2 post is intended for researchers who have completed PD1. As with the PD1, if you have already completed your PD2 stage in UCD or will soon complete a PD2, or your total Postdoctoral experience, inclusive of the duration of the advertised post, would exceed 6 years, you should not apply and should refer to Research Fellow posts instead.

Prior to application, further information (including application procedure) should be obtained from the Work at UCD website: https://www.ucd.ie/workatucd/jobs/

We are not accepting applications for this job through AcademicJobsOnline.Org right now. Please apply at https://my.corehr.com/pls/coreportal_ucdp/apply?id=019385 external link.
