Postdoctoral researcher in Theoretical Quantum Matter Physics

The Theory Group for Flat and Strange Quantum Matter of Prof. Louk Rademaker at Leiden University, The Netherlands, invites applicants for a three-year postdoc position. The intended starting date is September 2026.
The project
For this postdoctoral position, we intend to work on features of heavy fermion physics, concealed Mott criticality, strange metals and unconventional superconductivity in twisted bilayer graphene, rhombohedral graphene and transition-metal dichalcogenide bilayers. We encourage postdoctoral candidates who take initiative and are willing to suggest their own lines of research.

The candidate
· holds a PhD (or an equivalent degree) in Theoretical Quantum Matter Physics by the starting date;
· has excellent spoken and written English;
· is open for discussions and is eager to learn new ideas, techniques and approaches

The position of Postdoctoral Researcher in Leiden, The Netherlands, is a salaried position for three years. The starting salary is according to scale 10.4 of the Dutch University collective labor agreement, with possible higher salary depending on experience. Leiden University offers flexible working hours, six weeks of annual leave, and family-friendly working conditions including parental leave. The postdoctoral candidates are expected to participate in teaching activities.
The department
The project will be carried out in the Theory Group for Flat and Strange Quantum Matter of Prof. Louk Rademaker, who currently holds a joint position at the University of Geneva and Leiden University. The postdoctoral position will be embedded within the Lorentz Institute for Theoretical Physics (https://www.lorentz.leidenuniv.nl/).
