Position Description

The Department of Theater Studies at Duke University seeks applications for an Instructor (Artist in Residence) to begin July 2026. This non-renewable, one-year, full-time non-tenure track appointment as an instructor is intended for a recent graduate of an MFA Program (2023 or later preferred) in either Acting or Directing. The position requires an M.F.A. at the time of hire. Job duties will include a 2/1 teaching load in small laboratory-based acting classes as well as ancillary coaching in the successful candidate’s areas of expertise, whether as a choreographer, movement coach, fight or intimacy director, or any other. While at Duke, the successful candidate will also pursue a creative project of the candidate’s own with departmental resources and under the mentorship of our faculty artists and scholars.
