Postdoctoral Position in Computational Quantum Materials

The Computational Quantum Materials Group in the Department of Physics at Hanyang University invites applications for a Postdoctoral position in theoretical and computational condensed matter physics. We seek a motivated researcher with expertise in density functional theory (DFT) to study emergent phenomena in quantum materials.

Research Areas

- Correlated electronic states, charge density waves, superconductivity, and quantum magnetism

- Kagome materials and superconducting hydrides

- Machine learning interatomic potentials (MLIPs) and data-driven atomistic simulations

Position Profile

The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing computational research projects within the group and collaborate with leading international theoretical and experimental partners, both within the department and through external collaborations. The position offers a highly competitive salary and strong financial support. The group is led by Prof. Sun-Woo Kim (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=vMzEUzMAAAAJ&hl=ko), a newly appointed faculty member working on computational quantum materials and international collaborative projects.

Responsibilities

- Conduct advanced first-principles computational studies

- Contribute to ongoing computational research projects

- Publish research papers and present results at conferences

- Collaborate with group members and external collaborators

- Support mentoring of graduate students where appropriate

Qualifications

- PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a closely related field

- Strong background in electronic structure theory

- Demonstrated research productivity and ability to work independently

- Experience with codes such as VASP, Wien2k, Quantum ESPRESSO, or similar

- Experience with machine learning interatomic potentials is desirable

Essential (required by the specific grant regulations):

- At least one year of prior postdoctoral research experience

- Candidates must currently be based outside of Korea

Position Details

- Location: Hanyang University, Seoul, Republic of Korea

- Start date: ASAP

- Initial appointment: 1 year, renewable for a second year (1+1), with a possible extension to a third year depending on performance and funding availability

- Salary: approximately KRW 60–90 million per year, depending on experience and qualifications
