Postdoctoral Research Fellow Department Name: Psychiatry Massachusetts General Hospital Position Reports To: Jin hui Joo, M.D., M.A. GENERAL SUMMARY Our research group in the Department of Psychiatry is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill a postdoctoral position to assist with the implementation of community-based psychosocial and interventions such as peer support and social prescribing, among underserved, older adult populations to increase access to care for mental health and pre clinical cognitive problems and address social determinants of health such as social isolation and loneliness. Familiarity with and developing a track record of productive investigation and experience in mental health, psychosocial program or intervention development and implementation are preferred. The position requires a person who has PhD in Clinical Social Work, Clinical Gerontology or Clinical Psychology or a related field, with excellent verbal and written communication skills, is team-oriented, organized and detailed oriented, able to contribute scientifically in terms of the development of interventions, able to produce manuscripts and assist in submission of grants. This position will include responsibility for oversight and management of research coordinators. The fellow will work closely with Dr. Jin hui Joo, MD MA. The position will start Spring-Summer 2026 with 2+ years of support. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Relevant activities include, but are not limited to the following: - Design, development and implementation of research protocols - Manage collaboration with community partners including conducting study presentations for lay audiences - Effectively create recruitment and retention plans for community-based interventions - Oversee and aid in moving participants through studies: recruiting, scheduling, and conducting assessments - Coordinate team meetings and oversee and train research assistants - Oversee regulatory activities such as IRB submission and reporting to funding organizations - Assist with data management - Analyze quantitative and qualitative data - Participate in academic writing, including: literature review, manuscript writing, grant writing - Assist in scholarly products for presentation at conferences such as abstracts - Community presentations for outreach and education on mental health, cognition and social determinants of health Requirements: - Knowledge of mental illness, health behaviors, behavior change, and exposure to behavioral and psychosocial interventions - Experience working with older adults in clinical research settings - Experience in recruiting and enrolling research participants in the community - Knowledge of strategies for research engagement - Experience with protocol development - Experience with data collection and management - Familiarity with data management and analytical software such as REDCap, R, STATA, and other biostatistical applications - Knowledge of and ability to lead quantitative and qualitative data analysis - Strong communication and interpersonal skills and team-oriented - Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail REQUIRED: PhD, MD, with training in mental health, psychology, social work or clinical gerontology; demonstrated interest and skills in community-based, health services research.
