Position Description

The Department of Biology of Harvey Mudd College (https://www.hmc.edu/biology/) invites applications for two full-time, one-year, non-tenure track Visiting Assistant Professor positions for the 2026-27 academic year. We seek candidates in two different areas:

1. Organismal Biology. Teaching responsibilities will include a lecture course in some area of organismal biology, such as animal physiology or animal behavior, as well as a related laboratory and/or field course. An advanced seminar course in the candidate’s area of expertise is also possible.

2. Molecular Biology. Teaching responsibilities will include an upper division lecture course in an area of experimental molecular biology of the candidate’s preference. Examples include a course in cell biology, developmental biology, microbiology, or virology. The candidate will also teach a section of our upper-division molecular biology lab (Bio 111), led by a current faculty member.

Successful candidates for both positions will also work with other faculty to teach one or more sections of our introductory molecular biology laboratory course (Bio 23); this course is taken by all first-year Harvey Mudd students.

Applicants should clearly indicate in their cover letter which position they are applying for.
