Postdoc Positions in beyond the Standard Model Physics at HIAS Job description The School of Fundamental Physics and Mathematical Sciences at the Hangzhou Institute for Advanced Study (HIAS) invites applications for several new postdoctoral fellow positions starting this fall or earlier in theoretical high-energy physics. The successful candidates are expected to work with Chen Sun, a new faculty member joining HIAS in 2026. The main research interest is in beyond the standard model physics, broadly defined, including axion physics, ultralight dark matter, astroparticle physics, and cosmology. The application deadline is April 30 but early submission is encouraged. About the theory group Other fields of interest of our group include particle physics within and beyond the Standard Model, cosmology, astroparticle physics, gravitational wave physics, dark matter, quantum gravity, heavy flavor physics, neutrino physics, as well as its phenomenological applications. Current faculty members at HIAS include Yue-Liang Wu, Rong-Gen Cai, Chao-Qiang Geng, Ye-Ling Zhou, Kohei Kamada, Anna Tokareva, Chia-Wei Liu. The successful applicant is encouraged to discuss and work with other members of the group as well. Note that there is also a separate post for other postdoc positions at the group here. About HIAS HIAS is jointly organized by the Hangzhou municipal government and the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS). It is developed in close association with the International Centre for Theoretical Physics Asia-Pacific (ICTP-AP) and the Institute of Theoretical Physics, Beijing. The objective of the institute is to build a first-class international scientific research group, an academic exchange center, and a talent training base mainly focused on particle physics, cosmology, and astrophysics. HIAS is located in a beautiful area of Hangzhou. It is an hour away from Shanghai by the high-speed train. Working conditions - Successful applicants are expected to work on-site at HIAS in Hangzhou, and will have opportunities to visit ICTP-AP. - The positions are for 2 years, with the possibility of extension. - The starting salary is 300k - 350k CNY/year before tax, depending on experience. - Successful candidates have independent travel fund of 50k CNY (~7k USD) for two years. - The positions include fringe benefits provided by the institute (free gym access, discounted cafeteria service, on-campus housing with a nominal price, etc.) Formal requirements by the institute - Less than 3 years after receiving a PhD degree at the moment of the application deadline. - The age limit is below 35 years for these positions. - A PhD diploma is required at the time of employment.
