Position Description

The Cornell Laboratory of Atomic and Solid State Physics (LASSP) seeks a Postdoctoral Associate to join the research group of Professor Debanjan Chowdhury.

The Postdoctoral Associate will contribute to a research program focused on driven quantum systems and their applications to quantum information science, particularly in superconducting circuit platforms. This work includes the development and theoretical study of novel circuit architectures, aimed at improving coherence and enabling new approaches to quantum computation.

The Postdoctoral Associate will lead and collaborate on projects in several interconnected areas, including the study of coherence and dissipation in quantum circuits, the behavior of driven many-body systems, and the design of architectures for robust and scalable quantum information processing. These projects will involve a combination of analytical and numerical approaches and will connect closely with ongoing experimental efforts.

A Ph.D. in Physics, or a closely related field is required at the start of the appointment. Candidates with a background in quantum many-body physics, quantum information, or related areas are especially encouraged to apply. Experience in advanced numerical methods is preferred, but not required.

Applications should include:
  • Complete CV
  • Publication List
  • Research Statement (1-3 page)
  • 3 letters of reference
Deadline and More Information
Applications received by April 30, 2026 will receive best consideration. This is a full-time (40 hour/week), fixed-term position with benefits. The initial appointment period will be for one year with potential renewal contingent on funding and performance. The anticipated hiring salary is $65,000.

About Us
Since 1959, the Laboratory of Atomic and Solid State Physics (LASSP) has been leading the way in the fields of condensed matter, biological physics, and optics. Together with a dynamic group of graduate students and researchers, we are evolving new methods and deepening our fundamental understanding of the world.

Debanjan Chowdhury’s research involves programmable noisy intermediate-scale quantum (NISQ) devices, which allow for studying questions of both fundamental and practical importance in quantum materials research. While practical quantum applications typically require stable quantum bits with long coherence times, this research proposes innovative programmable algorithms that can harness the power of imperfect quantum simulators to tackle complex materials problems.
