Position Description

The associate in research will be supporting several PhD and PI-led projects in the Bernhardt lab this summer. Primarily, the associate will be assisting research in coastal North Carolina investigating plant invasion by the species Phragmites, with some work in nearby coastal forests possible. The associate will also complete sample processing, which will include filtering, drying, and weighing samples, and performing chemical analyses on instruments.

Field Work (40%): travel to and from field sites and collect specimens. This includes the collection and deployment of field equipment, including long-term sensors, and collecting soil samples (50%): analyzing field samples, including organizing data and completing quality control of data inputs, and ensuring appropriate storage of samples. Helping manage the field site (10%): This may include communicating field site supplies needed and sharing data with PI and other lab members. This position requires a minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
