Postdoctoral Fellowship Position Posting


The Department of Statistical Sciences is seeking up to 3 postdoctoral fellows. These positions focus on research combined with teaching two courses every year.


Area of Research: All areas of Statistical Sciences including theoretical, applied, data science, mathematical finance, actuarial science, and related fields.


Description of duties: The successful candidates will conduct research in their field. The candidates will also teach two 0.5 FCE undergraduate courses per year. Undergraduate courses have teaching assistants that are managed by course instructors.


Salary: $80,000/year plus benefits.

Please note that should the minimum rates stipulated in the collective agreement fall below the rates stated in this posting, the minimum rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.


Required qualifications: The successful candidates must have a recent PhD (or a PhD by the time of the appointment) in statistics, mathematics, or a related field. Candidates should show significant promise in research and demonstrate evidence of strength in teaching. The candidates are expected to list the preferences of the faculty proposals listed on the job advertisement.

Experience in teaching Statistical Sciences to undergraduates is an asset. We value

demonstrated experience in some of the following: course development and instruction, pedagogical development activities, supervision of Teaching Assistants. Strong written and oral English communication skills are required, as are the ability to proactively set, prioritize, and accomplish goals.

The normal hours of work are 40 hours per week for a full-time postdoctoral fellow (pro- rated for those holding a partial appointment) recognizing that the needs of the employee’s research and training and the needs of the supervisor’s research program may require flexibility in the performance of the employee’s duties and hours of work.
