Instructor – Basic Sciences

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery is recruiting life scientists at the beginning of their professional careers to develop innovative research programs in orthopaedic surgery. The initial appointment will be at the Instructor level; successful candidates will be subsequently considered for a tenure track faculty (Assistant Professor) appointment. Candidates will be expected to establish an independent research program and at the end of a 3 year mentoring period to become grant-funded investigators. We are especially interested in applicants whose research focus complement and extend the Department's strengths in osteoarthritis, fibrosis and intervertebral disc disease. The areas and themes of the research we wish to broaden include infection, stem cell, bone and disc biology, tissue engineering and vertebrate models of human disease. We seek individuals with Ph.D., M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. or equivalent qualifications, previous postdoctoral experience and a record of publications in high-quality journals. Ample opportunities exist for scientific interactions and collaborations within the department, throughout the university, and with other world class institutions in the Philadelphia area.
