Research Instructor Position

 

The Program in Molecular Medicine, University of Massachusetts Medical School (http://umassmed.edu/pmm/) is seeking an outstanding individual for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty member at the Research Instructor level.

 

The ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications:

  1. Candidate will have successfully completed postdoctoral work that has usually resulted in publications of papers in peer reviewed journals.
  2. Candidate will have demonstrated ability to teach in the laboratory setting (graduate students, postdoctoral trainees, and staff) and/or through the successful presentation of seminars.
  3.   Candidate will have a commitment to learn to write and submit competitive grant applications as PI or co-investigator under the oversight of a research mentor.
  4. Candidate will have the desire and aptitude to move toward greater scientific independence through the initial development of collaborative research projects.
  5. Strong oral and written communications skills; strong interpersonal skills
  6. Candidate will be able to culture microglia and perform fluorescence activated cell sorting and RNA-seq.
  7. Candidate will be able to analyze and sequence miRNAs, assess non-templated nucleotide addition, and determine functional significance of 3’ nucleotide additions.
  8. Candidate will be able to perform mouse genotyping, perform LPS injections, and analyze the inflammatory immune response.
  9. Candidate will be able to culture primary neurons and glia, perform cell transduction, and analyze synapse loss and microglia activation and phagocytosis.
