Postdoctoral Associate in Cover Crop Breeding

The School of Integrative Plant Science at Cornell University is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral associate to coordinate a national cover crop breeding network. The position involves work on multiple cover crop species including hairy vetch, winter pea, crimson clover, and cereal rye. Our network targets important traits for cover crop improvement such as early vigor, winter survival, biomass production, flowering time, soft seed in vetch, hard seed in crimson clover, disease resistance in peas, and allelopathy in rye. The successful candidate will analyze data from breeding nurseries and multi-environment trials, manage communication across a large nationwide team, guide protocol development, and assist with fieldwork and data collection associated with the Moore Lab. The candidate will have opportunities to develop independent projects, assist with grant writing, and develop manuscripts from past and future datasets.

Anticipated Division of Time
Data analysis and manuscript/grant writing: 50%

Project management and communication with collaborators: 30%

Fieldwork and data collection: 20%

Requirements
PhD in plant breeding, agronomy, or closely related field. Experience with programming in R. Ability to work as a team member, excellent time management and organizational skills, interest in project management, excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to work safely in an agricultural environment.

Preferred skills
Project management. Analysis of multi-environment data. Experience with ASReml statistical software. Familiarity with cover crops and/or sustainable cropping systems.

This position may supervise students.

Term of position
This is a full-time (100% FTE) position and will be located in Ithaca, New York. This is a one-year appointment with possible extension depending on available work, funding and performance.
