A permanent Senior Scientist position is available at the Department of Astrophysics, Geophysics and Oceanography, in the STAR Research Unit of the University of Liège, in Extragalactic Astrophysics (1st priority) or Exoplanets (2nd priority).

That position, originally created as a temporary assistant position, is destined to become permanent within the institution. At the end of a trial period of maximum four years, an evaluation of the applicant will take place and, if positive, their confirmation as a Senior Scientist. 

 Specifications of the job

Depending on the evolution of their needs, this list of specifications could be adapted, with the consent of the relevant department and the STAR Research Unit. 

 1. - Research and research assistance activities: 

  • Development of research in Extragalactic Astrophysics or Exoplanets, in collaboration with the relevant scientists of the STAR Research Unit. 
  • Assistance in accessing and using new generation, ground-based and space-borne instruments. 
  • Local database management and assistance to the utilisation of virtual observatories. 
  • Participation to future space mission (e.g. Euclid, ATHENA for extragalactic astrophysics) in collaboration with members of the STAR Research Unit. Ideally, they should take on the responsibility of the involvement of the University of Liège in the Euclid mission, launch expected in 2020-2021. 

 2. - Teaching activities 

  •  Participation to the supervision of practicals and classes, within their specialisation and the limits allowed by their status. 

 3. - Administrative activities 

  • Participation to the promotion of the University of Liège (students fair, welcome for newcomers day...). 
 Profile of the candidate 

  • PhD in Science 
  • Excellence in extragalactic astrophysics (1st priority) or exoplanets (2nd priority).
  • Long-term stay (min. 6 months) in a research institution abroad (other than the institution that delivered their PhD).
