INTRODUCTION

The School of Nursing at the University of Connecticut invites applications from doctoral prepared neonatal nurse practitioners to fill an 11-month, non-tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Clinical Professor or Associate Clinical Professor level to begin August 23, 2022.

Under the direction of the Dean of the School of Nursing, the faculty member will have the following responsibilities: teaching graduate courses in our nationally renowned online neonatal nurse practitioner (NNP) program; advising graduate NNP students; apprising students of their clinical performance on a regular basis; conducting evaluation of individual students’ clinical performance via impromptu meetings and planned evaluation conferences; evaluating students’ written work; participating in annual in-person orientation, simulation laboratory teaching experiences, and graduation. In addition, the faculty member will participate in student admissions for the NNP track, curriculum quality assessment and review, and contribute to other faculty committees within the School and University.

The successful candidate will share a deep commitment to effective instruction and will also be expected to assist the University in its efforts to broaden participation among members of underrepresented groups; to demonstrate through teaching, research/scholarship, and/or public engagement the richness of diversity in the learning experience; to integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods and research tools; and to provide leadership in developing pedagogical techniques designed to meet the needs of diverse learning styles and intellectual interests.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Doctorate in Nursing or related field;
  2. Previous teaching experience at an institution of higher education;
  3. Current practice and certification as a neonatal nurse practitioner (NNP-BC);
  4. Current state license as an APRN (valid as of the date of hire);
  5. Three or more years of practice experience as a neonatal nurse practitioner;
  6. Completion of required health indicators and CPR certification uploaded to American Databank at the time of employment;
  7. Excellent communication skills and interpersonal relationship strategies.

For Appointment as Associate Professor

  1. Substantial experience teaching nursing in an institution of higher education, with documented positive student evaluations;
  2. Evidence of scholarship or research commensurate with appointment at the Associate Professor level.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Record of scholarly productivity;
  2. Experience integrating technology into instruction and/or conducting online instruction;
  3. Demonstrated ability to contribute through scholarship, teaching, and/or public engagement to the diversity and excellence of the learning experience.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is an 11-month, non-tenure track position subject to annual renewal based on program needs, funding, and performance.  Individuals appointed as an Associate Clinical Professor may be eligible for multi-year contracts. Rank and compensation package will be commensurate with background, qualifications, and experience. The successful candidate’s academic appointment will be at the Storrs campus. Faculty may also be asked to teach at one of UConn’s regional campuses as part of their ordinary workload.
