Position: Pharmacology/Medical Educator, UMass Medical School Worcester, MA

The University of Massachusetts Medical School is a vibrant and collaborative environment, providing medical education to 162 students per year. Under our Learner-Centered Integrated Curriculum, students are able experience seamless education across the pre-clinical and clinical years. At this time, we are seeking a Medical Educator to fill a non-tenured track position teaching Pharmacology and Therapeutics. Candidates with a PhD (Pharmacology) or equivalent will be considered.

The successful candidate will work with a team of medical educators, comprised of both medical pharmacologists and physicians to redesign and implement an integrated, comprehensive curriculum teaching Medical Pharmacology in years 1 and 2, and Medical Therapeutics in years 3 and 4 (integrated with the students’ clinical clerkships). While not required for this position, candidates with expertise in mutually agreed upon areas of Physiology are preferred.

The successful candidate should indicate a strong interest in integrative, multidisciplinary medical education and will be expected to actively pursue new approaches to enhance the school’s integrated curriculum; examples of which include:

• Experiences in crafting and monitoring medical student milestones across all four years of medical training.

• Uses of simulation and other technology to support teaching, development of new curricular components and educational materials, and implementation of new methods for student assessment. Applicant will have available the full resources of our iCELS (interprofessional Center for Experiential Learning and Simulation) .

• Developing curricular materials to be used for self-directed remote learning.

• Expansion of interprofessional collaboration.

• Mentoring students in capstone projects.

We are seeking a candidate with strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills who has demonstrated success as an educator. The applicant should show evidence of engagement and productivity in the scholarship of teaching by dissemination of their work through peer-reviewed publications or presentations, and by involvement in regional and national level organizations. There are numerous opportunities for research in areas of clinical and basic science interest, as well as opportunities for research in the process of medical education.
