The Pomona College Department of Music invites applications for a tenure-track position in Studio Voice beginning with the 2018-19 academic year at the rank of Assistant Professor. The annual teaching load will primarily include teaching voice lessons, coordinating the vocal program, and working with the choral program; teaching 1–2 classroom courses is also expected. The classroom teaching may include courses in the candidate's area of expertise, general music, aural skills, or the Critical Inquiry program for first-year students.

As a department in which performance and scholarship are equally valued parts of a liberal-arts college curriculum, we seek a colleague who shares these principles and, in addition to professional work as a vocalist, can build bridges across the campus community. To this end, we welcome candidates with varying disciplinary and curricular interests. A DMA degree or equivalent professional experience in lieu of terminal degree is expected. Experience teaching undergraduate students is also highly desired, as is dedication to a liberal arts educational environment. The successful candidate will have experience working with students from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to improving higher education for underrepresented students.

Send a dossier, including (a) letter of application, (b) curriculum vitae, (c) transcripts, (d) three brief statements – one addressing teaching philosophy, one addressing professional work and future directions, and one addressing demonstrated ability to mentor a diverse student body, (e) a document that includes active links to recent video-recordings of live performances of at least 3 compositions for a total of 30 to 45 minutes, and (f) three letters of recommendation. These documents should be uploaded to academicjobsonline.org. Review of applications will begin on October 13, 2017.

Pomona College, the founding member of the Claremont Colleges, is a highly selective liberal arts college attracting a diverse, national student body, and located 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles. The Music Department has ten full-time faculty and 30 part-time applied music and ensemble instructors. The Department serves music majors as well as a large number of non-majors each semester.
