The Department of African and African American Studies in the School of Arts and Sciences at Brandeis University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of African History, beginning in Fall 2024. This position is subject to budget approval. Candidates with a capacious and imaginative research and teaching portfolio; who have a keen sense of, but are not limited by, the debates and protocols that have governed the field; and who specialize in African History in any period or sub-field or methodology are encouraged to apply. This is a full-time position in the Department of African and African American Studies, with a 2/2 undergraduate course load. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to participate in the university-wide and interdisciplinary African Diaspora Cluster Working Group, as well as establish a relationship with the Department of History. While we welcome applications from junior scholars at all levels of experience, the Ph.D. must be in hand by July 2024, before employment. First consideration will be given to complete applications received by October 1, 2023.
