Position Description:
   

The Crown Center for Middle East Studies and the School of Arts and Sciences at Brandeis University invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor position in the modern Arab Middle East with a strong preference for candidates in Anthropology or Sociology. Applicants must have training, linguistic expertise, and research and teaching interests in the region. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in hand when the appointment begins.

The Crown Center for Middle East Studies is committed to conducting balanced and dispassionate research of the modern Middle East that meets the highest academic standards. The center seeks to help make decision- and opinion-makers better informed about the region. The scope of the center's research includes the 22 members of the Arab League as well as Turkey, Iran and Israel. The Crown Center's approach is multidisciplinary in its study of the politics, economics, history, security, sociology and anthropology of the region's states and societies. This is a full-time joint appointment between the Crown Center and the candidate’s relevant Arts and Sciences department beginning in July 2025. At the Crown Center, the successful applicant will serve as a member of the Center’s multi-disciplinary research staff and take part in all Center activities. In the department of appointment, the candidate will serve as a full member, teach one course per semester and provide an appropriate level of service.
