Postdoctoral Associate in Scalable Inference Algorithms, Duke Statistical Science

The Department of Statistical Science at Duke University is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Associates in Scalable Inference Algorithms. Candidate should have substantial experience in large scale computation, including (ideally) both theory and practical applications for huge data sets. The focus of the project funding these positions is designing new algorithms that can accommodate enormous data sets, with a particular focus on multi-domain networks having up to billions of nodes. An emphasis will be on divide-and-conquer algorithms for probabilistic and Bayesian inferences; for example, using latent space network models in business analytic settings involving huge numbers of buyers, commodities and sellers. Applicants should have a PhD in some area of the mathematical sciences, such as Statistics, Mathematics or Computer Science, and ideally will have substantial expertise in modern programming. The work will involve developing novel algorithms, proving theoretical properties of the algorithms, implementing the algorithms at small and large scale, writing up results for publication in leading machine learning and statistics outlets, working closely with other members of the project team, and traveling to present results at conferences and other venues. Professor David Dunson will be the primary supervisor.

Interested applicants should apply through Academic Jobs Online - submitting a CV, cover letter describing research interests and fit to the position, and a minimum of 3 reference letters.
