We are seeking applicants to fill a Moore postdoctoral fellowship position in condensed matter theory at the Institute for Condensed Matter Theory in the Physics Department at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. This postdoctoral program is part of the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation’s Emergent Phenomena in Quantum Systems initiative (EPiQS). The postdoctoral fellowship supports three-years of funding, and applications for these positions are encouraged from outstanding individuals working in quantum materials, regardless of specialty. Postdoctoral fellowships at the Institute for Condensed Matter Theory provide especially wide latitude in choosing research activities, and fellows are encouraged to be broadly engaged with condensed matter research activities at Illinois. Postdoctoral researchers at Illinois interact with other theorists at Illinois, with the superb and large experimental condensed matter group, including members of the Seitz Materials Research Laboratory, the newly established Illinois Quantum Information Science and Technology center, and have access to unparalleled facilities for computation through the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, including the new Blue Waters facility. Applicants should go online at https://my.physics.illinois.edu/join/ to submit their application, which must include a cover letter, curriculum vitae, list of publications, a description of research interests, and the names, mailing and email addresses of three references. If you have any questions regarding scientific and/or programmatic issues or need assistance or accommodation in completing this application, please contact Janice Benner, jbenner@illinois.edu. Applications should be received by November 2, 2020 for full consideration. The University of Illinois is an EEO Employer/Vet/Disabled http://go.illinois.edu/EEO

About the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and EPiQS Initiative The Moore Foundation believes in bold ideas that create enduring impact in the areas of science, environmental conservation and patient care. Visit Moore.org or follow @MooreFound. The foundation’s $185-million EPiQS initiative promotes discovery-driven research in the field of quantum materials (http://www.moore.org/programs/science/emergent-phenomena-in-quantum-systems). Through a variety of funding approaches, EPiQS aims to enable a community of leading experimentalists, materials synthesis experts and theorists to maximize their potential to explore, discover and understand emergent behavior of complex quantum matter. The Moore Postdoctoral Scholars in Theory of Quantum Materials program is an integral part of EPiQS and supports theoretical physicists of outstanding promise at an early stage of their careers. The Moore Postdoctoral Scholars are provided with a significant independence in selection of their research directions within their departments and can acquire a breadth of expertise by working with multiple faculty members. The Moore Foundation values diversity and encourage applications from individuals regardless of their age, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, race, national origin, religion or disability.
