Research Assistant Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy

The Robert J. Margolis, MD, Center for Health Policy at Duke University has an opening for a Research Assistant. The work site for this position will be the Duke-Margolis offices in Washington, DC.

This specific research assistant position will support Center projects with research, writing, and analysis with a focus on healthcare delivery and payment reform. He or she may collaborate on projects spanning a broad range of topics, including pharmaceutical and medical device policy, regulatory science, product safety surveillance, comparative effectiveness research, patient-centered outcomes research, US health policy, patient engagement, and biomedical innovation.

Primary responsibilities include conducting background research, performing literature reviews, drafting summary documents, extensive writing for a range of deliverable types (e.g., policy briefs, white papers, blog posts), and supporting Center events and convening. This will include support for project activities through coordination, logistics management, and some administrative tasks.

Education/Experience Requirements: Educational attainment and work experience requirements to be met by one of the following: • Bachelor’s degree Applicants may be considered for a senior research assistant role if they have the following education and experience: • Bachelor’s degree and at least 3 years of relevant work experience. OR • Master’s degree in a relevant field (health policy, public policy, public administration, public health, health economics, etc.). Master’s degree with at least one year of related work experience is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills Requirements: • Strong research and writing experience is required. • Familiarity with current trends and regulations in payment and delivery system reform is required. • Policy research skills, including the ability to synthesize content from a broad range of sources, is required. Some data analysis capabilities would be preferred. • Strong written communication skills and the ability to transform complicated information into easy to understand materials is required. • Ability to interact with high level individuals and organizations is required. • Training or experience in the fields of health policy, public policy, public health, data science, or patient safety is preferred. • Administrative, project coordination, and management experience is preferred.
