The Department of Theater at Colgate University invites applications for a one year visiting assistant professor position in the field of acting. The position will begin fall 2019 and may have the possibility of a one year renewal. The teaching assignment of five courses per year will include at least one section of Introduction to Acting, additional acting courses in the candidate’s field of specialization, and the possibility of directing a mainstage production. The areas of expertise are open, but candidates with experience in physically-based approaches to performance are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates whose teaching and research demonstrate a grounding in traditional theater techniques while exploring the intercultural and interdisciplinary boundaries of performance are also of interest. Acting courses in the Colgate University Department of Theater foster collaboration, imagination, and self-awareness, and encourage students to explore the connection between internal life and physical expression. The Department welcomes applications from candidates whose professional performance work informs both their teaching and their creative practice. Degree Requirements: Completion of an M.F.A. in Acting or a closely related field is expected prior to or shortly after the date of hire. Teaching experience at the undergraduate level is preferred.
