Professor of Practice / Sr. Lecturer
Management Consulting Industry Lead

Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management
Cornell SC Johnson College of Business
Cornell University

The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business invites applicants for a full-time or part-time position in Management Consulting (“MC”) in either our Strategy and Business Economics Area or our Management & Organizations Area for placement in the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management. The rank of the position will depend upon the qualifications of the successful candidate. The intended start date of this position is July 1, 2022. The position will be based in Ithaca, NY but will be hybrid in nature.  Specifically, in-person work in Ithaca will be required during fall semester for particular recruiting-preparation activities and during fall and spring semesters as required by teaching commitments, but other work can be done remotely if desired.

Responsibilities of the position include oversight of the management consulting program at the Johnson School and teaching courses in consulting, case analysis, and related subjects at the MBA level.

 1.       Management Consulting Program Management Lead:

The Management Consulting Industry Lead will serve as a main (but not single) point of contact for management consulting at the Johnson School, both internally and externally. Internally, the Industry Lead will coordinate Johnson’s management consulting-related curricular and co-curricular activities to ensure that recruiting preparation processes are highly efficient and effective with a particular emphasis on readiness for placement at prestigious firms. Externally, the industry lead would work in collaboration with External Relations and the Career Management Center to strengthen relationships with multiple offices, both domestically and internationally, of prestigious management consulting firms.

2.       Teaching:

The Industry Lead will teach courses in consulting, case analysis, and related subjects at the MBA level, help to manage student consulting projects, and provide other service to the School as appropriate for their role.  Teaching ability will be evaluated during personal interviews, but evidence based on prior professional and/or teaching experience is required. The chief teaching objective is to help students become competent, confident, efficient, and compelling analysts and presenters of strategic issues facing senior executives.

While the primary role for this position is teaching and oversight of Johnson’s consulting program, Johnson faculty also are expected to engage in committee assignments and to participate in student and school events including case competitions, student advising, and faculty/staff presentation support.

The ideal candidate must have significant senior-level management consulting experience. Preference will be given to partner-level experience at a prestigious firm. Candidates must have demonstrated leadership skill and execution excellence; ability to refine, strengthen, and oversee a complex ecosystem consisting of alumni, senior recruiting executives, current students, prospective students, admissions, external relations, career management, faculty, and Johnson and College leadership. Additionally, candidates should possess an unwavering positive attitude, a strong desire to win, experience in hiring MBAs into a prestigious management consulting firm, and an MBA from a top program. A Johnson MBA a plus.

The Cornell SC Johnson College of Business combines three Schools: the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management (Johnson), the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management (Dyson), and the Nolan School of Hotel Administration (Nolan). The Johnson School is a leading graduate business school which offers 2-year and 1-year MBA programs from its Ithaca campus, a 1-year MBA program through Cornell University’s Cornell-Tech campus in New York City, 1-year specialized Masters degrees, and four different Executive MBA programs at the Cornell Tech campus, throughout the Americas, and in mainland China. This role would focus primarily on the Ithaca-based MBA programs.
