Undergraduate Laboratory Supervisor (Open Rank Lecturer)

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a full-time (9 month) Lecturer II or Lecturer III to be the undergraduate laboratory supervisor in support of our introductory physics and astronomy classes. Responsibilities include supervising graduate student assistants teaching in laboratory sections; managing, maintaining, and developing laboratory and lecture demonstration equipment and pedagogical material; and supervision of a lecture demonstration assistant. Occasional teaching of lower-division undergraduate physics or astronomy lecture courses is also expected. Rank and salary will be commensurate with education and experience. The expected start date is August 10, 2020 with classes beginning on August 17, 2020.

The successful candidate will be hired with the title of Lecturer of rank II or III. A minimum of an M.S. in physics, astronomy, or an equivalent field is required for Lecturer II; a PhD is required for a Lecturer III. Preference will be given to candidates with excellent records of teaching and managing lower-division undergraduate laboratories, a creative vision for pedagogical improvements in laboratory teaching, demonstrated supervisory skills, excellent communication skills and work ethic, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
