Work Incentives Associate – Senior Extension Associate Yang-Tan Institute

Position is located in Ithaca, NY, within the ILR School on the campus of Cornell University, or can be based remotely.

The School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University has an immediate opening for a Senior Extension Associate – Work Incentives Associate in the K. Lisa Yang and Hock E. Tan Institute on Employment and Disability in the Extension/Outreach Division.

Our Team:

The Yang-Tan Institute (YTI) conducts research and provides continuing education and technical assistance on many aspects of disability in the workplace. Researchers and practitioners at YTI have helped companies, labor organizations, government agencies, schools, and communities throughout the United States and abroad to accommodate and integrate individuals with disabilities. Our team consults with business and industry, and with policy makers, educators, disability advocates, and rehabilitation practitioners.

What you will do:

This position works in partnership with the Program Director to expand the Income and Benefits focus area within YTI.  This includes all grant and contract-sponsored initiatives in this focus area, as well as fee-for-service efforts. This will include:

·Collaborate in the support and development of the Work Incentive Practitioner – Certification (WIP-C), Youth Credentialing (YOUTH-C) and Veterans Credentialing (VET-C) programs.

·Outreach, marketing and recruitment for all publicly-offered income and benefit training programs.

·Relationship building with federal, state and local agencies to market and contract for fee-for-service lines of programming.

·Collaboration and oversight with all related personnel assigned to work in the Income and Benefits focus area.

·Assist Director with the support of Income and Benefits Planners who attend the YTI Online course.

Senior Extension Associate is a full-time, academic, non-tenure track, term position with an initial appointment through June 30, 2024. The position may be re-appointed based on recommendations by the appropriate YTI Leadership and Senior Associate Dean for Outreach, as well as available funding and work.

What we need:

·Advanced degree (Master's, doctoral, or Juris Doctor) in related subject matter expertise (industrial and labor relations, employment or labor law, human resources /management /business, organizational behavior/change, economics, workforce development, vocational rehabilitation, occupational medicine/workplace safety and health, education, diversity/inclusion, social programming providing cash, health and other benefits, etc.).

·Minimum of seven to ten years of experience teaching related courses in college-level environment, conducting training to relevant target audience, and/or conducting research in the thematic content area.

·Relevant professional leadership and network development at the state, regional, national, and/or international areas in relevant professional, trade, policy, or public networks.

·Minimum of one to three years demonstrated experience in promoting thematic area program teaching, consultation, and research services to regional, state, or national networks through the use of in-person, print, and electronic mediums.

·Demonstrated experience in leading teams and mentoring, coaching, and supervising teaching and/or research personnel and graduate students; five to seven years preferred.

·Occasional travel required.


You will be a top candidate with our preferred qualifications:

·Terminal degree in related field.

·Professional credentials in Benefits Planning disciplinary area, such as appropriate state and national licensure, certifications, etc., as well as 3 – 5 years working with and teaching benefits planning materials and providing technical assistance to planners in the field.

· Minimum of three to five years demonstrated experience in large project management (e.g. several staff and budgets exceeding $500,000).

·Demonstrated writing ability and scholarly record in the thematic content area (articles in peer-reviewed journals, articles in trade publications, practitioner journals, research and project reports, informational brochures, policy briefs, etc.).

· Minimum of three to five years demonstrated experience in successful grant writing and grant management.

· Minimum of three to five years’ experience with distance learning.


ILR School Outreach appreciates employees by providing the opportunity to pilot a nine day per month campus-to-home hybrid schedule.

ILR School provides a salary range of $98,000 to $126,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications.
