We invite applications for a Postdoctoral position in radio astronomy to work on developing the Canadian Galactic Emission Mapper (CGEM) experiment. The successful applicant will have a strong research record in instrumentation and secondarily in data analysis. The position is for two years initially, with possibility of renewal. An immediate start date is desirable. This job is based at the Dept of Physics & Astronomy at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada.

CGEM (https://cgem.ubc.ca) is to be a 4 m telescope located at the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory (DRAO) in Penticton, British Columbia. It is being designed to map polarized synchrotron emission over the northern sky at ~0.5 degree angular resolution in the frequency band ~8-10 GHz. The primary science driver of CGEM is to improve our knowledge of polarized galactic foreground emission in aid of CMB polarization studies, but the data will also aid in studies of the Milky Way’s interstellar medium. The successful candidate will be based at UBC's Vancouver campus, and will be joining a team of ~10 researchers and faculty members spread across multiple institutions. The successful applicant will report to Professors Gary Hinshaw and Mark Halpern.

Qualifications: PhD in Physics, Astronomy or closely related field. Relevant experience in radio instrumentation and observations, signal processing, and numerical data analysis. Expertise in statistical data analysis and software development are welcome assets. Applicants are asked to submit a cover letter, a CV including publication records, and a statement of research plans. Please submit three letters of recommendation. Review of applications will continue until the position is filled.

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply. Equity and diversity are essential to academic excellence, and we seek to foster the inclusion of voices that have been underrepresented or discouraged in our research community. We encourage applications from members of groups that have been marginalized on grounds including racialization, disability, political belief, religion, marital or family status, age, gender identity, and/or status as a First Nation, Metis, Inuit, or Indigenous person.
