The National University of Singapore (NUS) is a leading research-intensive university (http://www.nus.edu.sg/) that is consistently ranked among the world’s top universities. Established in 2004, the Department of Communications and New Media (CNM) (http://www.fass.nus.edu.sg/cnm/) is a leader in communication and new media research and education. It offers undergraduate, honours and postgraduate programmes in communications and new media studies, with an innovative curriculum that introduces students to key debates in the areas of media and communication studies, communication management, interactive media design and cultural studies. Its students undertake industry immersion through its compulsory internship programme. Successful candidates for these positions will join an engaging community of 32 full-time faculty and approximately 800 undergraduate and graduate students.

Remuneration is competitive and includes medical, housing, relocation and other benefits. Significant research start-up funding is available if appointed on the tenure track.

a) Full Professor (with Tenure) in Environmental Communication 
We seek Full Professor with expertise in Environmental Communication including the communication of science, risk, sustainability, and policy concerning environmental issues particularly in the new media environment such as climate change, socio-ecological systems (e.g., food, energy, water, technology), natural and human-made disaster, environmental planning, environmental campaign, environmental justice and governance, repair, and circular economy. Candidates with interdisciplinary research and industry expertise, and able to teach broadly into our curriculum such as new media studies, critical informational studies, social computing and strategic communications, are especially encouraged to apply.

Qualifications: PhD in Communication, Cultural Studies, Public Policy, Social Sciences, or closely related disciplines. Candidates must have an excellent track record in research and teaching and demonstrate leadership in their fields commensurate with rank.

b) Full Professor (with Tenure) in Computational Communication (2 positions)
There are two Computational Social Science Full Professor positions, which are broadly envisioned as (a) Computer-mediated interaction and communication, and (b) Computational Behaviour. While our faculty within these areas are driving a wide variety of projects invoking state-of-the-art methods and tools, we envision the role of a Full Professor to define and steer the research directions towards meeting the larger vision and mission of the department to be Asia’s first and premier hub of computational social science research. The candidate would catalyse key intra-university collaborations with faculty in other departments to facilitate methodological innovations and open resource- and data-sharing practices, as well as inter-university connections that widen the impact of the computational social science research at NUS in the broader regional and international area.

The ideal candidates must be well-versed with state-of-the-art computational research, methods and techniques, evidenced through publications that break new ground, and international recognition and leadership roles. The candidate would enrich the research culture at CNM through building the research agenda and obtaining large research grants, influence key decisions through service roles involving administration, hiring, collaborations, and outreach, and mentor future generations of scholars through teaching and advisory roles. 

While their disciplinary training may vary, ideal candidates would show evidence of leadership, international renown, and an established reputation in the research community in one or more of the following areas: computational social science, media and communication studies, information sciences, and technology.  

Qualifications: Interested applicants must have a PhD in Communication or closely related discipline, with evidence of leadership in applying computational social science methods to resolve communication and media studies research questions; as well as evidence of excellence in teaching. Candidates should demonstrate ability to use computational methods such as topic modelling, natural language processing, and online experiments in applied contexts such as health communication, social movements, and public opinion. Candidates must have experience with computational techniques using R or Python and the ability to teach courses in computational communication, social media research, network analysis, and/or time series analysis.

c) Full Professor (with Tenure) in Digital Media Effects 
We seek Full Professor in Digital Media Effects, with strong emphases on media effects in digital environments, and networked communications and technologies. Candidates should have extensive expertise and experience in studying the role and impact of new media and information communication technologies on individuals, groups, and societies. Candidates with excellent track record in carrying out funded research and management of interdisciplinary research groups and labs related to studying the impact of digital media and communications is preferred. 

Qualifications: PhD in Communication, Media Studies, or closely related disciplines. Candidates will also have evidence of excellence in teaching and pedagogical innovation and demonstrate clear leadership in their fields commensurate with rank.

For tenure-track applications, post-doctoral experience and a proven or strongly emerging track record of high quality research and impactful publications, alongside clear research plans, are highly desirable. 

If hired at a senior rank, responsibilities will include departmental research leadership, attracting research funding, mentoring junior and mid-level faculty.
